Radical cystectomy and bladder substitution

The incidence of bladder cancer is rising. The main treatment for superfici al bladder cancer is local resection and judicious use of intravesical agen ts. Radical cystectomy can cure organ-confined, inversive disease. The ilea l conduit remains the gold standard following cystectomy. Newer methods of bladder substitution and nerve-sparing techniques have resulted in better t olerance of this treatment.
