Even though most instances of partial mole are triploid, only a few cases o
f diploid partial moles have been reported. Prognosis of partial mole is us
ually better than the complete mole as few cases of partial moles progress
to persistent trophoblastic disease. However, the nature and the risks of d
iploid partial moles are not well established and they seem to be a distinc
t clinical entity. Here we report a case of partial mole presenting with a
22 weeks live fetus and preeclampsia. Fetal blood sampling was performed fo
r cytogenetic analysis which revealed a diploid (46XY) karyotype. No progre
ssion to malignant gestational trophoblastic disease occurred. (C) 2000 Int
