In this study, the analysis of engine room flows has been done and the cool
ant temperature at radiator inlet has then been predicted using a three-dim
ensional radiator model that includes effects of nonuniformity of air veloc
ity distribution across a radiator. In addition, the technique of rotating
reference frame was utilized for cooling fans to improve the prediction of
flow rate across a radiator. Finally, this model was verified through wind
tunnel tests and applied to modify the shape of front-end openings of the e
xisting vehicle. The results show that the current engine cooling model suc
cessfully predicts the variation of engine cooling performance with the sha
pes of front-end openings.
