This review reports about opportunistic parasitological infections in
patients suffering from AIDS and other immunosuppressive diseases. New
aspects of the pathogenesis and immunological control of toxoplasmosi
s, microsporidiosis, and cryptosporidiosis will be presented. In addit
ion, clinical manifestations, as well as diagnostical und therapeutica
l concepts of these infectious diseases are given. Although in the mea
ntime classified as a fungus, this review will as well include data on
Pneumocystis carinii, since this agent still is mistakenly recognized
as a parasite in many publications.
