Abstract
This review reports about opportunistic parasitological infections in patients suffering from AIDS and other immunosuppressive diseases. New aspects of the pathogenesis and immunological control of toxoplasmosi s, microsporidiosis, and cryptosporidiosis will be presented. In addit ion, clinical manifestations, as well as diagnostical und therapeutica l concepts of these infectious diseases are given. Although in the mea ntime classified as a fungus, this review will as well include data on Pneumocystis carinii, since this agent still is mistakenly recognized as a parasite in many publications.
