Jk. Butler et Rs. Cantrell, EFFECTS OF PERCEIVED LEADERSHIP BEHAVIORS ON JOB-SATISFACTION AND PRODUCTIVITY, Psychological reports, 80(3), 1997, pp. 976-978
This study investigated effects of perceived leadership behaviors on j
ob satisfaction and productivity. Participants were 467 graduate and u
ndergraduate organizational behavior students who formed 101 groups. P
revious field studies have found no effect of leaders' behaviors on or
ganizational productivity when productivity was represented by indirec
t, enterprise-wide financial measures such as profit and return on ass
ets. In our study, we manipulated leaders' behaviors (consideration an
d initiating structure) and measured productivity in terms of units pr
oduced by each group. Analysis indicated strong effects of leaders' in
itiating structure and consideration on both job satisfaction and prod
uctivity of group members.
