Abstract
It is shown that oxidized La0.5Sr0.5(Mn0.53+Mn0.54+)O-3 and reduced Pr0.5Ba 0.5Mn3+O2.75 samples show similar magnetic and magnetoresistive properties. Both compounds, characterized by T-C approximate to 320 K, exhibit a ferro magnetic-antiferromagnetic transition around 200 K, where a large magnetore sistance develops. However, the reduced sample has a much larger resistivit y than the oxidized one. These data suggest that some of the intriguing pro perties of the manganites can also be realized without mixed manganese vale nces.
