The combination of functional neuroimaging using PET or fMRI with electroph
ysiological methods having high temporal resolution permits a detailed spat
io-temporal analysis of cerebral information processing. Several requiremen
ts have to be met for the successful integration of diverse imaging methods
: 1) paradigms have to be developed that can be used with both classes of t
echniques, 2) a common coordinate system should be employed. We illustrate
the possibilities of combined neuroimaging by several recent examples. More
over, prospective clinical applications are discussed.
