The synthesis is reported of the first rotaxane involving a bound ferroceny
l moiety and beta-cyclodextrin; cyclodextrin groups are used as stoppers; i
ntermediate 1:1 adduct formation in d(8)-THF was monitored by HR-DOSY metho
ds (K-d = 25 mM, 293 K) and the product rotaxane, isolated in 11% yield, ha
s been characterised by MMR, CD and MALDI-TOF MS.
