Abstract
By means of high-energy resolution photoemission we show that the Rh(100) 3 d(5/2) surface core-level shift decreases when the surface temperature incr eases. The effect is interpreted as due to the expansion of the first inter layer distance, because of the different anharmonicity of the bulk and surf ace interatomic potentials, in agreement with theoretical predictions.
