Abstract
We use hybrid density-functional theory (DFT) and scanning tunneling micros copy (STM) to study oxygen adsorption on the Pt(110) surface. In the STM im ages oxygen appear as bright protrusions on the ridges of the "missing row" reconstructed surface. DFT calculations of binding energies for atomic oxy gen on a bridge site shows a clear preference over hollow sites.
