The inference of entangled quantum states by recourse to a maximum-entropy-
minimum-norm approach is discussed. It is shown that, in some cases, such a
n inference scheme exhibits advantages over the standard form of the MaxEnt
prescription. In particular, the present formalism makes it possible to ob
tain all the physical states (separable or not) compatible with a given amo
unt of prior information. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserve
