A series of polybutadiene-containing poly(ether urethane amide)s was synthe
sized. The physical properties of the resulting polymers were observed to b
e significantly affected both by the polybutadiene content in the soft segm
ent, as well as by the nature of dicarboxylic acid chain extender. Prelimin
ary derivatization reactions of the polymers were performed via a free-radi
cal reaction mechanism, using different acrylic monomers as a model, by whi
ch a range of polymer properties were obtained, including highly hydrophobi
c and hydrogel-like materials. (C) 2000 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
