A variant of the Hough transform is described which allows the measurement
of the speed of motion of a small object across the field of view. The tech
nique is applicable where the object moves at an approximately constant vel
ocity. It can be used to detect objects which are identifiable by speed. Th
e algorithm is given and the nature of the resulting transform analysed. Su
ccessful results are presented in an application to search for meteors. (C)
