Abstract
A comparative analysis is carried out for the traditional and electrochemic al methods of synthesizing phthalocyanines and metal complexes on their bas e from various precursors and metal salts. The nature of a nonaqueous solve nt is shown to be a highly important factor controlling the reaction pathwa y and the yield of the target products. The synthesis of phthalocyanines wi th the UV activation of the reaction mixture is discussed. The methods of s ynthesizing lanthanide and actinide phthalocyanines and substituted phthalo cyanines are briefly reviewed.
