The thermodynamics of solution of normal C-3-C-5 alcohols in nematic struct
ures of p-alkanoyloxy-p'-nitroazoxybenzenes (R = C3H7, C5H11, C7H15) was st
udied by gas-liquid chromatography. An increase in the size of the alkyl su
bstituent in the mesogen leads to strengthening of mesogen-nonmesogen H bon
ds and increase in the role of the conformational factor in the intermolecu
lar interaction energy. The revealed trends in variation of the thermodynam
ic parameters of solution of alcohols in nematic structures are associated
with changes in the relative contributions of specific and nonspecific inte
ractions in these solutions.
