The GLC data and model concepts showed that the breaking effect of C-3-C-5
alkanols on nematic structures of p-alkanoyloxy-p'-nitroazoxybenzenes (R =
C3H7 C5H11, C7H15) is determined by stability of the intermolecular H-bonde
d complexes mesogen-nonmesogen and by orientation of the bound mesomorphic
substance. The limiting slopes of the boundaries of the phase equilibria ne
matic phase-isotropic liquid correlate with the partial molar enthalpies an
d entropies of solution of alcohols in the mesomorphic structures at infini
te dilution.
