Three cellulase compositions were investigated for the bio-polishing of a c
ellulosic fabric. An add cellulase complex, an endo-enriched cellulase, and
a mono-component endoglucanase were compared based on their selectivity an
d sensitivity to process conditions. All cellulases have similar applicatio
n pH and temperature ranges; however, their sensitivity to liquor ratio and
to mechanical agitation differ significantly. The significance of their di
fference is addressed. For optimal bio-polishing performance, an enzyme pro
duct should be selected based on cellulase selectivity, existing equipment,
and fiber type.
