Abstract
Model, small-scale methods for assaying the abrasive activities of cellulas es (the ability to remove indigo from denim during the enzymatic treatment) and indigo backstaining on cotton fabric in the presence of enzymes were d eveloped. Both the abrasion and backstaining microassays can be carried out at two scales, either with 20-30 mt or with 2-3 mt of enzyme solution. Dep ending on the scale, the microassay procedures require not more than 10 mg or not more than 1 mg of enzyme protein, respectively. Image analysis was p erformed to evaluate minor amounts of enzyme during strain development and biochemical research.
