In industry the water-ice slurry used for liquid-icing agricultural produce
is prepared in batches. Large electric motors are used to operate and main
tain the productivity of these ice-water mixing systems. To overcome the di
sadvantages of the present commercial systems, the concept of continuous-fl
ow continuous-flow ice slurry with underwater ice and water mixing was deve
loped. A prototype was built and tested. These rests showed that the protot
ype can provide art ice flow rate of 0.91 kg/s. At this flow rate, the prot
otype can liquid-ice 180 to 210 boxes of broccoli per hour with a power req
uirement of 1.15 kW.
