Abstract
In the title compound, C27H16O, M-r = 356.42, orthorhombic, Pbcn, a = 22.54 9 (6), b = 10.738 (4), c = 7.316 (5) Angstrom, V = 1771 (2) Angstrom(3), Z = 4, D-calc = 1.336g/cm(3), F(000) = 7449 mu(MoK alpha) = 0.08mm(-1) and fi nal R = 0.041, R-w = 0.045 for 1009 reflections (I greater than or equal to 3, 00 sigma(I)). The molecular structure of 7,9-diphenyl-8H-cyclopentacena phthylen-8-one (acecyclone) is symmetrical and each atom except two benzene rings lies approximately in the same plane.
