The monomer evaporation energies and fission barriers of doubly charged sil
ver cluster ions in the size range 9 less than or equal to n less than or e
qual to 25 are measured by collision induced dissociation. They are compare
d to the dissociation energies of singly charged silver clusters. A macrosc
opic liquid drop model combined with empirical microscopic corrections succ
essfully describes the measured fission barriers.
