Abstract
We discuss the impact of ionic motion on the electronic response of metal c lusters subject to a violent excitation. We consider in particular the coup ling between electronic and ionic degrees of freedom in the course of the i rradiation of a cluster by an intense laser beam. Our results hint at a qui ck coupling between ions and electrons, in the 100 fs range or even faster for very high excitations.
