Abstract
The electrooxidation of 3-[1-(2-aminophenylimino)-ethyl]-6-methylpyran-2,4- dione schiff base in acidic aqueous solution containing 1.0 M H2SO4 leads t o a polymer film on platinum electrode. The electrooxidative polymerization process was studied by sweep potential electrolysis, controlled potential electrolysis and scanning electron micrographs. The film shows reversible. well-defined redox systems in aqueous solutions only. The factors affected the electroactivity of the film such as scan repetition, the quantity of ch arge used during the film formation and scan rate were studied in detail. T he modified electrode was found to catalyze the electrooxidation of hydroqu inone. Comparative study between the stability, rate growth and polymerizat ion yield for the films prepared in acetonitrile and aqueous acidic solutio ns was carried out. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd.
