IN services for converged (Internet) telephony

Given the convergence of the PSTN and IP-based networks, it would be advant ageous to transparently support access to the existing installed base of in telligent network services from packet endpoints, while simultaneously prov iding newer, more advanced services to said endpoints from within the IN in frastructure. In this article we describe the INSeCT (IN Services for Conve rged [Internet] Telephony) prototype, aimed at achieving these very goals i n networks using H.323. The early sections briefly present background mater ial on VoIP and IN, while the rest of the article focuses on the prototype implementation.
