Applying a 3-D-GUI to a distributed network management system

Three-dimensional (3-D) GUI's help network operators to understand complica ted network configurations. With the goal of applying 3-D-GUI technology to CORBA-based network management systems, this paper proposes a method of in tegrating VRML/Java/CORBA, in which Java Applets mediate management informa tion between a VRML scene and a CORBA server. A prototype system configurat ion that incorporates this method and its operation sequence, which display s the fault notifications on VRML scenes, is described. An evaluation of th e prototype system demonstrates the effectiveness of this method.
