Abstract
The structural and magnetic characteristics of Nd3 - xDyx(Fe,Ti)(29) (0.1 < x < 3) based ternary alloys have been investigated. For each value of x, t he optimum annealing temperatures were found in relation to the highest 3:2 9 phase content, Despite an extensive search concerning the annealing tempe ratures and the Dy content, no new phase was precipitated. The room tempera ture anisotropy held increases from 3.7 T for x = 0 to 6.7 T for x = 2.5. T he anisotropy constants, K-1 = - 2.11 MJ/m(3) and K-2 = 0.9 MJ/m(3), obtain ed at 300 K for Nd0.5Dy2.5(Fe,Ti)(29) annealed at 1248 K, indicate that the anisotropy of this compound is of easy-plane type. This conclusion is conf irmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) on magnetically oriented samples. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
