Residual neutron-induced radionuclides were measured in a soil sample colle
cted in the vicinity of the location where a criticality accident occurred
(in Tokai-mura, from 30 September to 1 October, 1999). Concentrations of Na
-24, La-140, Sb-122, Fe-59, Sb-124, Sc-46, Zn-65,Cs-134 and Co-60 in the so
il sample were determined by gamma-ray spectrometry, and neutron activation
analysis was carried out for selected target elements in the sample. Tenta
tive estimates of the apparent thermal and epithermal neutron fluences whic
h reached the sample were obtained through combined analyses of Fe-59/Fe-58
, Sb-124/Sb-123, Sc-46/Sc-45, Zn-65/Zn-64, Cs-134/Cs-133 and Co-60/Co-59. (
