Dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate is shown to rearrange at a diruthenium cent
re to give a mu-C=C(CO2Me)(2) vinylidene complex in high yield via a 1,2-CO
2Me shift within a diruthenacyclopentenone species, a transformation propos
ed to occur via a zwitterionic mu-cyclopropenyl intermediate stabilised by
the Cp* ligand.
