Sz. Qiao et al., Study of binary adsorption equilibrium of hydrocarbons in activated carbonusing micropore size distribution, LANGMUIR, 16(11), 2000, pp. 5130-5136
Adsorption equilibria of gases on Norit activated carbon were measured usin
g a differential adsorber bed rig. The binary gas mixtures between three hy
drocarbon gases, i.e., methane, ethane, and propane, were employed in the e
xperiment as adsorbates. The experimental equilibrium data were used to exa
mine the predictive capability of the multicomponent equilibrium model, whi
ch utilizes the concept of micropore size distribution and Lennard-Jones po
tential theory to describe the adsorption energetic heterogeneity on activa
ted carbon. The effects of the minimum size of pores accessible to adsorbat
es and the constraint in the saturation adsorption capacity of the extended
Langmuir equation on the prediction performance are investigated within th
e model.
