Abstract
We performed endoscopic tendon transfers through single 1 cm portals in thr ee hands (three patients) using the Universal Subcutaneous Endoscope (USE) system (patented by I. Okutsu, MD) with local anaesthesia and without a pne umatic tourniquet, to restore function to injured extensor pollicis longus tendons. Operations were performed under complete endoscopic visualisation and the active range of motion of the interphalangeal joint of the thumb wa s confirmed by active exercise during the operations. All patients expresse d satisfaction with their postoperative condition, both functionally and co smetically. This new operative procedure for tendon transfers may demonstra te a possible minimally-invasive technique for all tendon transfers.
