Ma. Abdel-rahman et al., Measurement of elastic plus inelastic differential scattering cross-section of 59.54 keV gamma-rays from paraffin and polystyrene, NUCL INST A, 446(3), 2000, pp. 490-496
Scattering cross sections of 59.54 keV gamma-rays of Am-241 from paraffin,
polystyrene and copper have been determined for scattering angles between 3
0 degrees and 120 degrees. Differential elastic plus inelastic scattering c
ross-section values for copper have been obtained theoretically, by means o
f form factor and scattering function calculations. Comparing the experimen
tal data with the theoretical cross section values for copper, the experime
ntal arrangement has been calibrated for each scattering angle. So, values
of differential cross sections of paraffin and polystyrene, used as neutron
shield and plastic detector materials, respectively, for 59.54 keV gamma-r
ays for 10 scattering angles have been experimentally determined. The corre
sponding theoretical differential cross sections were calculated. Compariso
n between experimental and theory reveal good agreement. (C) 2000 Elsevier
