Abstract
We are conducting experiments of self-amplified spontaneous emission (SASE) in the far-infrared region at ISIR, Osaka University by using a high brigh tness single-bunch beam from the L-band linac. As the first step, character istics of the SASE-FEL are estimated using the one-dimensional analytic for mulas and the measured characteristics of the electron beam. The calculated FEL parameter is 0.02 and the gain length is 0.14 m at an electron energy of 13 MeV and K = 1.472. Recently, we observed a strong optical signal radi ated from a single-bunch beam passing through the wiggler for the existing infrared FEL system. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
