Dr. Chauhan et al., RESPONSE OF INDIAN MUSTARD (BRASSICA-JUNCEA) TO BIOFERTILIZERS, SULFUR AND NITROGEN-FERTILIZATION, Indian Journal of Agronomy, 41(4), 1996, pp. 620-623
A field investigation was carried out during 1992-93 and 1993-94 to st
udy response of Indian mustard [Brassica juncea (L.) Czernj. & Cosson]
to 2 strains of bacteria (Azotobacter and Azospirillum) as biofertili
zers and 3 levels each of S (0, 25, 50 kg/ha) and N (0, 33, 60 kg/ha).
Seed inoculation with either of the bacteria significantly increased
the number of branches and pods/plant, seeds/pod and yield of seed, st
over and oil. The crop responded significantly up to 50 and 60 kg/ha o
f S and N respectively. Interaction between biofertilizers and N level
s was found significant, which revealed that inoculated crop receiving
moderate levels of N gives similar yield as the uninoculated crop rec
eiving higher doses of N.
