Long-lived free induction decay signals induced by pulses greater than 104
degrees have been observed in superfluid He-3-B in a magnetic field of 0.16
T at a pressure of 31 bar down to 0.25T(c). Decay times as long as 6 s hav
e been seen. During the decays, the frequency of the signal decreases, whic
h is characteristic of a homogeneously precessing domain (HPD). It appears
that the high magnetic field used in these experiments stabilizes the HPD a
gainst the catastrophic relaxation phenomenon observed at lower fields. Inv
estigation of this effect over a range of magnetic fields is underway and w
ill be reported. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
