Abstract
The effect of the heavy-ion irradiation and the neutron irradiation on the magnetization behavior of RE123 (RE:Nd,Sm) single crystal was compared. The neutron irradiation introduces the spherical cascade defects, whereas the heavy-ion irradiation creates the columnar defects which penetrates through out the sample. Both kinds of irradiation cause the enhancement of magnetic irreversibility, indicating that the introduced defects work efficiently a s pinning centers. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V.
