The effect of Pb and/or Y doping on the hole concentration n(h) of Bi2-xPbx
Sr2Ca1-yYyCu2O8+d was studied by means of optical absorption. T-c and magne
tic response were examined in terms of fundamental and harmonic susceptibil
ities. The sample of x = 0, y = 0.2 shows the highest T-c. Further substitu
tion of Y decreases both T-c and n(h). Pb substitution introduces holes onl
y for the case of poor nh samples. The pinning force density is enhanced wi
