Abstract
A light-element radioactive ion-beam capability has been developed at the L BNL 88-Inch Cyclotron. The system is based on the coupled-cyclotrons method and utilizes short-lived species, e.g., C-11, O-14, N-13 produced by (p, I I) and (p, alpha) reactions at the LBNL Biomedical Isotope Facility Cyclotr on. In a first experiment, Au-197(C-11, xn)(208-x) At excitation functions have been measured for energies ranging from the Coulomb barrier up to 110 MeV using a beam of C-11 with intensities up to (1-2) x 10(8) ions/sec on t arget. The results of this experiment are compared to measurements of Au-19 7(C-12, xn)(209-x) At excitation functions.
