Symmetric tubular ceramics exhibiting a 50% porous volume and mean pore dia
meters centered around 11, 13 and 15.5 mu m, respectively, were tested in a
erosol filtration using sodium chloride particles in the range of 0.01-0.7
mu m in diameter and face velocity varying from 0.6 to 4 cm/s. The evolutio
n of particle penetration and pressure drop was measured in function of por
e size, membrane thickness and air flow velocity. The filtration results gi
ven as a function of the filter characteristics and of the operating condit
ions show that these filters can be classified as high efficiency particula
te air filters whether as HEPA or ULPA standards. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science
