A practical approach to hemoperitoneum in the dog and cat

This article describes a diagnostic approach and the medical and surgical s tabilization of patients with hemoperitoneum. Emphasis is placed on animals with neoplastic and traumatic disease. Because there is little information in the veterinary literature regarding treatment outcomes for neoplastic o r traumatic hemoperitoneum in cats or dogs, a specific treatment protocol f or each scenario cannot be recommended. The therapeutic guidelines containe d in this article are based on the opinions and experience of the authors.
