Abstract
There is no sex dimorphism in reindeer less than three years old. In a dults with definitive dentition it is possible to determine sex from t he length of the mandible diastema. The specimens with the diastema sh orter than 94 mm are females, those with diastema longer 100 mm are ma les. The animals with intermediate values of the diastema length can b e qualified as females if their molars are worn out and as males if th eir molars are not worn out.
