Abstract
This paper discusses the main stages of the life and scientific activi ty of Yu. I. Ostrovskii. The main emphasis is placed on his work in ho lographic interferometry and his use of it for diagnosing plasma and s tudying hydrodynamic processes, as well as for various applications of holographic interferometry in experimental mechanics.
