Na. Ahmed et al., AC chopper voltage controller-fed single-phase induction motor employing symmetrical PWM control technique, ELEC POW SY, 55(1), 2000, pp. 15-25
Due to the growing demand in improving the performance of motor drives, the
re is an increasing need to improve the quality and reliability of the driv
e circuit. AC-to-AC converter schemes using pulse width modulation (PWM) ar
e proved to achieve substantial advantages over conventional line-commutate
d AC controllers. With the increasing availability and power capability of
MOSFET's and IGBT's switches, PWM converters can efficiently and economical
ly be used in low and medium power applications. However, such controllers
have been applied only to control the voltage of passive R-L loads. In this
paper, the performance characteristics of a symmetrical PWM AC chopper con
troller-fed single-phase induction motor drive are evaluated. The developed
analysis is experimentally verified by an experimental verified mathematic
al model is used for this purpose. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All right
