In real cases of direction finding sites the direct wave, which propagates
undisturbed between the source and the direction finder, is superposed by a
variety of coherent waves. This causes stationary fields of interference a
nd often results in large bearing errors, especially ii in addition there a
re vast disturbances of the free wave propagation in the immediate vicinity
of the direction finder. This report introduces the "displacement method",
which allows the modelling of the influence of dominant disturbing objects
. By means of this additionally applied technique the surrounding condition
s in the vicinity of the direction finder can be taken into account during
the evaluation of the bearing results. Through the application of this meth
od bearing errors caused by unfavourable surrounding conditions can be redu
ced considerably.
