Abstract
Water plants are very sensitive to the conditions in which they live, and s o their occurrence, abundance and habit can be used to interpret these cond itions. Even in the extremely dried and damaged Maltese rivers, it is possible (in the limited reaches and seasons where there is enough water) to use aquatic macrophytes as pollution indicators. A grading on an (up to) 8-point scale can be obtained.
