J. Ida et al., Surface modification of a ceramic membrane by the SPCP-CVD method suitablefor enzyme immobilization, J ELECTROST, 49(1-2), 2000, pp. 71-82
A-novel method of surface modification of ceramic membrane using surface co
rona discharge-induced plasma chemical process-chemical vapor deposition (S
PCP-CVD) was developed to introduce functional groups on a surface (e.g., f
or enzyme immobilization) as a gas-phase method. In this study, aminopropyl
group was used as a model functional group to be introduced. In the experi
ments, effects of various conditions of surface modification on the introdu
ced amount of aminopropyl groups were examined. As a result, it was confirm
ed that the amount of introduced amino groups can be controlled with the su
rface modification conditions such as adsorption time of the ingredient, di
scharge time in the SPCP reaction and the number of surface modification tr
eatments. Additionally, an application of the surface modified ceramic memb
rane was tried for the supports of enzyme immobilization. As a result, it w
as confirmed that the enzyme was immobilized on the modified surface by usi
ng the introduced amino groups effectively. After the immobilization, the e
nzyme had a sufficiently high activity compared to the usual case of the co
valent bonding. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
