Abstract
A cross-linkable fluoropolymer emulsion has been studied. We report the syn thesis of fluoropolymer emulsion having a hydroxy functionality, which coul d be cross-linked with water dispersible polyisocyanate. In this paper, a n ovel fluoropolymer emulsion including carbonyl units which is available for one-package coating is described. Carbonyl units were introduced to the fluoropolymer particles by seeded cop olymerization of acrylic monomers. The emulsion gave a transparent film whi ch exhibits good solvent resistance and mechanical properties. Moreover, a new hydrophilic film-surface modifier has been synthesized and evaluated in order to prevent the dirt line on an outer wall. The paint film made of these chemicals shows high resistance to weathering after accelerated weathering test, and high performance of reducing dirt is observed in an outdoor exposure test.
