Mesozooplankton data were collected from 1960 to 1997 three times per year
in the Central Baltic Sea (Latvian Economic Zone). Interannual variability
of the biomass-of different species was related to climate variability usin
g a multivariate regression model.
The results suggest that in the Central Baltic Sea the interannual variabil
ity during spring of zooplankton species such as Acartia spp., Evadne nordm
anni, Podon spp., Syncheata spp., and Temora longicornis is controlled by t
he sea surface temperature during spring. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. Al
