Abstract
The classifying space E(Gamma,F) for a family F of subgroups of a group Gam ma is defined up to Gamma-homotopy as a Gamma-CW-complex E(Gamma, F) such t hat E(Gamma, F)(H) is contractible if H belongs to F and is empty otherwise . We investigate the question whether there is a finite-dimensional Gamma-C W-model, a finite Gamma-CW-model or a Gamma-CW-model of finite type for E(G amma,F) focusing on the case where F is the family of finite subgroups.
