Abstract
Polyhydroxylated pyrrolidines (azasugars) bearing a (difluoromethylene )phosphonate group at the pseudoanomeric position are prepared by nucl eophilic opening of arabino-, ribo- and xylo-furanosylamine with dieth yl (lithiodifluoromethyl)phosphonate followed by cyclisation of the am ino phosphonate products obtained.
