Jj. Perez-bueno et al., Organic-inorganic system of two-dimensional quantum wells prepared by the dye incorporation into sol-gel glass, MICROEL ENG, 51-2, 2000, pp. 667-675
Molecules of the organic colorants were encapsulated in SiO2 glass derived
by the solution-gelatinization process; as the result, the colored glass wa
s obtained containing the colorant embedded within the glass in a molecular
or molecular aggregates form. The system thus prepared manifests an effici
ent photoluminescence; the optical absorption as well as the photoluminesce
nce excitation and emission spectra reveal the existence of sets of the dis
crete energy levels. The structure of the colorant's molecule and the perce
ntage of doping determine the level separation; the dependence upon the env
ironment is relatively small. The quantum mechanical description of the sys
tem is given considering the organic molecules as the two-dimensional quant
um wells, with the boundary conditions taking account of the finite depth o
f the wells and the existence of aggregation. The results of calculations a
gree with the experiment. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science BN. All rights reserved
